Ken Garland

Ken Garland is a British graphic designer know for penning the original ‘First Things First’ manifesto. Garland is active in the Campaign For Nuclear Disarmament, whom he has worked for, as well as for other political and social causes such as the Committee Of 100 (a splinter movement from the CND) and
the Labour Party. He studied at London’s Central School for Arts & Crafts in the 1950’s alongside contemporaries such as Alan Fletcher.




The ‘First Thing’s First’ manifesto sent shockwaves through the industry, it called for designers to stop wasting their talents on selling cheap products and commit to doing ‘proper’ design work.
