Police Appeal Signs

I have decided to derive the colourways for my Strangeways poster from Police signage. I want a very authoritarian look with this poster and if I can get people to stop and look at it, to believe it is a Police notification even just a split second then I think I will work.

Vintage Police Sign

Even though basic compared to the modern day equivalent, it's interesting to note that in this old sign, the text is still written similarly, in a sans-serif typeface.

Police Logos

Following on from my prison logos I decided to look at Police logos.

British Transport Police

Greater Manchester Police

Metropolitan Police

Prison Logos

For this Strangeways brief I want to link it back to the Strangeways Prison in Manchester. I have been looking at the logos used by such the Police and the Prison Service in the UK.

The Ministry of Justice

Gill Sans is used here. Combined with the crest, and the word 'Ministry' it feels really British.

HM Prison Service

This is an older logo for HM Prison Service. Interesting to see a serif typeface used. I think this dates this logo design somewhat.

This is HM Prison Service's newer logo. Using Helvetica has modernised this alot, as well as removing that awful lens flare. I quite like this design and might use it for the basis of my Strangeways poster.

These are some graphics used internally within the Prison Service to denote rank I believe. Similar use of Helvetica as above.
